Bill Frisell at Firehouse 12

On Wednesday, January 25th, Firehouse 12 is pleased to welcome back guitarist Bill Frisell and his trio Beautiful Dreamers, featuring Eyvind Kang (viola) and Rudy Royston (drums). Frisell’s CD Beautiful Dreamers (Savoy Jazz) features original compositions and interpretations of classic songs from the American Songbook. Frisell’s past performances at Firehouse 12 have been extremely popular with audiences; we are excited to have the opportunity to bring him back to New Haven in 2012.

Frisell’s music has been noted for it’s "special intimacy, quiet joy and constant sound of surprise" (John Kelman, All About Jazz). The New York Times critic Nate Chinen praised "his fludity, his whimsy, his sly mastery of timbre and color. . . [and] his feeling of floating time." Frisell was born in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up playing the clarinet in addition to the guitar in Denver, Colorado. In 1979 he moved to New York City and began to collaborate with artists like John Zorn and the late Paul Motian. His current projects include Beautiful Dreamers, the 858 Quartet, the Bill Frisell Trio, and a quintet performing the music of John Lennon.
